A study in automotive photography.
Man-made professional studio lighting planted amid a beautiful natural scene. This passion project for our photographer Kyle Meyr was developed around the goal of not only pushing his limits as a creative and photographer, but to expand the world of automotive photography into a blend of machined and natural beauty.
The project highlights the smooth iconic curves of a classic Porsche 911 by juxtaposing them with the rigid straight vertical lines of an evergreen forest. To best highlight the Porsche’s design, the project required a large square light source like that one would find in a studio. The challenge was to take that same concept outside.
The idea developed over two years. Production of and sorting equipment, location scouting, direction of concept and the photography itself were some of the challenges overcome in this passion project.
Behind The Scenes
Accompanying the stills is a film documenting the process. The film shows the process of conceiving the idea, workshopping it and executing. From assembling the crew to rigging to shooting, the process is full of mistakes and on-site problem solving.
The BTS film also serves as an opportunity show our cinematic storytelling. Mats Andersen combines onsite action with beautiful hand-held b-roll and a sit-down style of interviewing to walk the audience through the project.
